Why Baby Wearing is Cool for Dad

I have always supported baby wearing… when my wife told me she wanted to do it. Never did I think that I would be baby wearing some day. I thought it was only a mom thing. Mostly because I would only see moms doing it and the designs on the carriers weren’t anything I would want to wear. But my wife opened my eyes and showed me different colors that I didn’t know existed. Plus the Stitch (from Lilo and Stitch) suck pads! I must say, baby carriers are one of the best inventions ever!

My wife is obsessed with all the different types of carriers out there. She already has a ring sling, a wrap, and a soft-structured carrier. Plus, she wants more… I can’t keep up with all them! I’m going to need a second job for all these carriers! All throughout our pregnancy she was chipping away at me, trying to convince me to baby wear. I refused. But when you’re at the mall or Disney world and your baby won’t fall asleep and doesn’t want to be put down and your arms feel like they are about to fall off, that carrier ALWAYS comes to the rescue. Not to mention it makes getting through airport security a little easier. Needless to say, I now baby wear quite often. Since I’ve starting wearing, I have noticed a lot of other dads doing it to. It’s manly to do it…. unless you ask my father-in-law who laughs at me every time I strap the carrier on.

Any guys out there that think baby wearing is not manly… Just do it anyway. Not only to help your wife out, but to have that closeness with your child is awesome. Plus it’s a lot of fun when my wife can’t get the baby to sleep in the carrier but I can…. As much as the baby loves momma, sometimes he just wants to be with daddy! (Just don’t tell my wife I said that!)
